F**k it. I'll do it myself
Welcome to 30 – The Album
As many musicians do, I have always dreamed of recording a full album of my songs and being able to tell people, “Yeah, you can check me out on iTunes.”
However, at this point in my life, personally, I know it is highly unlikely that I’m ever going to be offered a record deal by......well, anyone.
So, I thought, “Fuck it. I’ll do it myself.”
I have the songs, I have a decent recording setup at my house, my wife and I know our way around branding, marketing, and licensing, and we know the channels to go through to get world wide digital distribution on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
It’s a wonderful time to be alive!
Here’s the plan:
Over the next 13 weeks, I’m going to rehearse, record, brand, market, license, and distribute a 15-track album titled, “Welcome to 30”.
And I want to share the whole process with you through this blog, pics, and videos. Even if no one else really gives a crap, it’ll be a record for me to look back on. Fondly, I hope.
My birthday is on June 21st, so I want to drop this album before I turn 31.
The best part is that there really isn't any pressure. The goal isn't to get famous or make a bunch of money.
This is purely a creative endevor. It's just about finally doing something that I've always wanted to do, and whatever the end result is, it'll be 100% me.
This album is about the milestones in my personal journey to 30 years old. I think it’s a journey that many people can relate to. It’s about those defining moments in life that mold us into the people we are. Many of those moments are centered on the various relationships in our lives; the friends that have come and gone, the love that I’ve found and have almost lost, and the struggles in working out my own personal goals and values and beliefs.
And, you know, also Superman.
I think each song represents a moment that everyone has experienced or struggled with at one time or another, on some level.
I’m so excited to do this thing, and hopefully it’ll resonate with someone.
Either way, it’s going to be a fun time, and a great adventure.
I hope you’ll join me!
